It is no doubt that owning a website is an ownsome achievement, however, it could be more exciting if you could do it by yourself. Many reasons for making a personal website such as sharing and exchanging knowledge, taking important notes, or even fulfilling my writing desire attracted me to make it. In this post, I’m gonna share with you my reasons to create a website and how I make it. Through this post, I do hope you can find out your own reasons and make a decision to create it by yourself.
The first reason for me to create a website is that I want to share my technical knowledge with everyone who is interested in geotechnical fields and computer science. Sharing is the best way for someone to learn a new thing and a website is a good tool for delivering that. In order to share a technique or lesson learned, I need to spend time preparing my notes carefully by recalling my previous lessons and experiences. If I’m lucky I will receive some comments and feedback from readers that could help me improve a lot. I saw many people using social media to share their knowledge with everyone, but unfortunately, it doesn’t work for me since I’ve tried many times before. Many distractions on social media are the main reason that led my posts to go in vain.
In addition, taking notes on the website is a good solution for me to remember any ideas or notes which I’ve read and seen or even done it before. In the past, I usually used notebooks to write down some things that I think are important lessons that need to remember. However, the huge drawback of that habit is the notebook may be lost after a long period of usage. For that reason, I move forward to use the electronic note instead, imagine, as long as you can connect to the Internet, you can check your notes everywhere on the globe. It also plays an important role in saving our environment by the cut off the use of paper.
The final reason to use a website is to fulfill my writing desire because of my love of writing when I was young age. Besides, my writing skill could be fallen into oblivion if I don’t practice writing every day. I want to possess a website a long time ago but it seemed very hard to me because of my poor programming skills. I used to write a lot in blogtiengviet which was the first personal blog I’ve ever made. Unfortunately, since the famous social media Facebook appeared, I’ve not written any articles in that blog again. But it’s different now since I’ve stop using Facebook last week to spend all my free time building my website from now on. Therefore, writing something out on my blog is my best choice and priority.
There are many reasons out there that could lead someone to open a website, and for me, the three abovementioned are the primary reasons that encouraged me to register for a website. Hope you can have some reasons to create one for you now. You may wonder how to create a website for people who is not good at programming, yeah, don’t worry, these import steps below that instruct you how to open a new website using wordpress.com. If there are any questions regarding creating a new website, please let me know here or leave your comments below. Thanks and have a nice day!
Step 1: Go to wordpress.com and create an account, you can follow the instruction here https://wordpress.com/support/tutorials/five-step-website-setup/ to create a new website with a free domain name wordpress.com. your site will look like “yourname.wordpress.com” which “yourname” is the name of your site.
Step 2: Assumed you do have a site now and you want to customize it. I think the 2 important things that you want to design are the menu and widget.
As for the menu: (1) go to appearance — customize: create a menu

(2) go to the Appearance — menu: design items for your menu

Step 3: Design widgets by going to appearance — widgets: insert some blocks that you want to include in your website.
Step 4: Refer to some available themes on wordpress.com to optimize your site.
Step 5: Practise using your site by creating posts, and pages as much as you can.
Step 6: Go to upgrades if you want to purchase a new domain name instead of wordpress.com by such as “.com” like me.
